By analyzing the sexes of the three protagonists in Cynthia Ochik, the novel of The Jewish Writer in the United States, this article attempts to explore the identity perplexity caused by the norms of gender defined by the social roles of men and women. Their description goes beyond the social roles defined by the gender model of men and women, but at the same time their over-represented roles have, to some extent, solidified the norms of social roles defined by gender and have therefore to be changed by the already solidified gender ideology.
