Mitsubishi Petrochemicals is continuing talks with Asahi Kasei and intends to merge the production and sales of styrene. Japan said that the merger will take effect on April 1, 2000. The two parties have agreed to form ADestyrene to manage the polystyrene business. The styrene production capacity of Mitsubishi Oily in Japan is approximately 600kt/a, and Asahi Chemicals approximately 410kt/a.
