Flow-area (QA) method and ln(diameter)-velocity (ln(D)U) methods based on si-multaneous measurements of velocity (U) and arterial diameter (D) using ultrasound technique were hotspots in the research of local pulse wave velocity (PWV) detection.In the present study,we did a comparative study on the accurate performance of QA and ln(D)U methods by the simulation and clinical trial systematically.According to the clinical measurements of carotid arterial wall displacement and central blood flow velocity during a cardiac cycle,an ultrasonic simulation model with preset theoretical value of PWV was established using Field Ⅱ platform.Based on 30 simulation results,the normalized root-mean-square-errors of PWVs estimated using both QA and ln(D)U methods were 0.30 ± 0.08 and 0.45 ± 0.13,respectively.Moreover,the results based on 20 human subjects showed that the estimated PWVs using QA and ln(D)U were correlated with the coefficient of 0.94;the coefficient of variations (CV) were 12.08% and 13.17%,respectively.The simulation and clinical results verified that the QA method was more accurate for estimating the local pulse wave velocities.
