Translator’s Note: Mr. John Steinfeld, a 94-year-old man, lives well in the south-west of England. Seventy years ago, he participated in the surrender ceremony of the British and U.S. troops by the North China Japanese Army to the Chinese government. On behalf of the British army, he signed the book of termination. On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, he wrote an article recollecting the unforgettable experience. For the British, World War II started with the German invasion of Poland in September 1939. For China, the war took many years earlier from the notorious “Twenty-One” and the subsequent Japanese invasion of Manchuria.
