This article presents an overview of the Japanese Society of Evolutionary Economics and the study of evolutionary economics, expounds the definition of evolutionary economics, examines in detail three main categories of evolutionary entities, and explains why economics should evolve. On this basis, we examine the major aspects and economic systems of the selection process in the economic evolution and reveal the important role that evolution plays in the economy. The article also examines some properties of human behavior, compares the maximization of neoclassical utility with the normative behavioral patterns of evolutionary economics, and reveals the close relationship between knowledge and other evolutionary subjects. The last part of the paper introduces the emerging multivariate proxy models and simulation methods in evolutionary economics and takes them as the basic analysis tools for breaking through and replacing the neoclassical research model in the new era.
