Son and Lover, an emotional work by Lawrence about how modern civilization distorts the great maternal love and pure love between men and women. All the sources of the contradictions in the novel seem to point to one object, the deterioration of the living environment brought by the Industrial Revolution, which in turn affects the normal relationships between husband and wife, father and son, lover, mother-in-law and (quasi) daughter-in-law that distort the interpersonal relationship. The universal significance of this great work, Son and Lover, is not limited to the book’s record of Lawrence’s early experiences. In every family in the world, there is more or less such internal friction of human noble emotion.
