October 27, 2014 Zurich reports that RUAG Aerospace Switzerland plans to make satellites using 3D-printed components soon, making them lighter and cheaper. As part of a project study, RUAG Aerospace experts manufacture the antenna support for Earth Observation Satellites. In the past, the company had provided the European Space Agency (ESA) with a similar stent made of Sentinel-1A radar satellites using conventional processes. RUAG and Altair have now redesigned the stand to optimize 3D printing. 3D printed parts by the German EOS company to complete, the final 3D printing parts quality is only half the quality of the past components, and has good stiffness.
