The rise of the study of sovereignty is a prominent phenomenon in the recent Anglo-American medieval history. However, this phenomenon has not attracted the special attention of domestic and foreign scholars. This article attempts to describe the process of the rise of the study of the sovereignty, and analyze its characteristics. This paper argues that the rise of the research on the sovereignty of sovereignty and the Western micro-feudalism are similar, reflecting the new academic trend from feudalism to the sovereignty. This is because, on the one hand, the lords’ sovereignty is more specific than feudalism; on the other, the lordship is a ubiquity in the medieval European history. However, the concrete study of the sovereignty also reflects the abstract thinking. In the debate over whether the territorial sovereignty is governmental or non-governmental, it has grown into a new discourse of understanding medieval history.
