Objective: To investigate the effect of Sydney cough syrup on Th1 / Th2 cytokines in children with cough variant asthma and its clinical efficacy. Methods: Eighty children with cough variant asthma were randomly divided into control group and treatment group, 40 cases in each group. Both groups were given montelukast sodium chewable tablets, the treatment group was treated with Sydney cough syrup. The changes of serum Th1 / Th2 cytokines (IL-4, IFN-γ), lung function and symptom scores before and after treatment were observed. Results: Serum levels of IFN-γ and IFN-γ / IL-4 were significantly increased (P <0.05) and IL-4 levels were decreased in both groups after treatment (P <0.05) (P <0.05). The levels of IL-4 and IFN-γ / IL-4 were all lower than those of the control group (P <0.05). After treatment, the indexes of pulmonary function (FEF25%, FEF50%) were improved in both groups before and after treatment (P <0.05) . After treatment, the scores of wheezing, cough, sputum, full mediastinum, wheezing symptom scores were lower than those before treatment (P <0.01). After treatment, the score of each symptom in the treatment group was lower than that of the control group (P <0.05). The total effective rate was 85.0% in the control group and 97.5% in the treatment group, the difference was statistically significant (P <0.05). Conclusion: Sydney cough syrup can effectively improve the balance of Th1 / Th2 cytokines and lung function in children with cough variant asthma and improve the clinical curative effect.
