Gold and silver, as important commodities, have always maintained their traditional role in investment, industry and art. Relative to the cost of production, the current gold and silver prices are conducive to the sustainable development of large and small precious metals production. Newly-developed mine of gold and silver production still can not meet the needs. According to 1979 data from Consolidatd Gold Fields Ltd., the total supply of gold in the world was 1,765 tons (57 million ounces). The percentages of gold used in various fields in the world in 1979 were as follows: 42%, industry 10%, investment 25%, currency and medal 18% (total 95%). Silver production was 389 million ounces in 1977 compared with 411 million ounces consumed by the World Bank, of which about one-third of silver was for photography and the rest for art, electronics, currency and others
