Chemical potential of the Chihuidodela Sierra Negra field in Argentina was evaluated using several different mining options. Large-scale waterfloods have been carried out in the field for several years, and groundwater has been used as recovery brine for groundwater reuse. Therefore, it is very advantageous to use brine as a chemical solvent to add water, both from an operational point of view and from an economic point of view. However, the formation brine contains about 11 × 10 4 ppm of total solids and about 2 80 0 ppm of divalent cations, making it rather difficult to select a suitable surfactant. ASP flooding has been considered, however, the sheer volume of freshwater and the need to install softening equipment in the field adversely affect the economics of the process. This article will discuss the development of new anionic surfactants that have solubility in high salinity and low interfacial tension at low concentrations. A brief description of the history of the Chihuidodela Sierra Negra field, in-house screening and evaluation of surfactants, including interfacial tension properties, adsorption, core evaluation, and chemical-driven states. The importance of developing new surfactants is that this surfactant enables the EOR project of equipment to eliminate the idea of being considered uneconomical due to the increased cost of water treatment and treatment required
