The article points out that Dred Scott’s precedent is the culmination of a political conflict on slavery in the former south and north of the United States civil war. Instead of resolving conflicts and crises, it has aggravated the city-to-city conflict between the south and the north, has led to the outbreak of a civil war, the deterioration of racial relations and the spread of racism in the United States. Its negative impact was not completely eradicated until the civil rights movement in the 1950s and 1960s.
