The effect of 6-aminocaproic acid on the polymerization of caprolactam has been studied. Five different amounts of 6-aminocaproic acid were used as catalysts to polymerize caprolactam in a sealed tube at 230 ± 1 °. The monomer content, the oligomer content, and the polymer production amount, and the number average molecular weight of the polymer in the polymerization product obtained after each reaction time were measured. The experimental results show that the monomer content decreases rapidly with the reaction time and the amount of polymer produced increases rapidly, both with different rates of catalyst dosage. The last group of monomer content and the amount of polymer generated tend to a certain value. Oligomers remained roughly constant for each reaction time. The number average molecular weight of each group of polymers, beginning with the largest amount of catalyst rose the fastest, less catalyst consumption after some time gradually exceed the amount of catalyst. Finally, the number average molecular weights of each group each reached a certain value, respectively. We conclude that 6-aminocaproic acid has an initiation and virulence effect on caprolactam, and that the polymers at all levels have the same effect. During the reaction, polyaddition, polycondensation, degradation and exchange reactions exist at the same time, in the beginning of polyaddition is significant, accompanied by the polycondensation of macromolecules, and finally through the chain of degradation and chain Exchange to monomer, 圜 type oligomers and polymers at all levels and water between the total balance of a system.
