江户时代以前,日本主流的文化圈子极为狭窄,基本集中在京都一小部分宫廷贵族、博士家以及寺庙僧侣之间。因而汉籍本身已视为是一种王朝公家权利的威严象征。那么,汉籍的流传范围和流传情况就是值得讨论的问题,其具体表现有三个方面:一是汉籍的传播与唐宋时代的东亚海域贸易之特性是有着密切关联;二是遣唐使购买了大量的汉籍并得到各种藏书机构的收藏;三是已经传入日本的书籍是否又曾被大量传抄、流行于世间。
