Marine carboniferous rocks are widespread in eastem Tianshan Mountains. Mounds as a main type of carboniferous buildups were formed owing to organisms and environmental factors. Abundant organisrms have been found in the mounds, including calcareous algea,thrombilites, bryozoans, echinoderms,brachiopods and sponges. Basing on the characteristics of various organisms, faunal assemblapes and their quantity in the mounds, we conclude that the cabonate buildups in astern Tianshan Mountains are very strilar to those of the Waulsotian in Europe Mounds as a main type of carboniferous buildups were formed due to organisms and environmental factors.
