[Objective] To establish a method for distinguishing RADIX NOTOGINSENG from its counterfeits including RHIZOMA ALPINIAE OFFCINARUM,RHIZOMA BLETILLAE,RHIZOMA CURCUMAE LONGAE and RHIZOMA CURCUMAE by ultraviolet spectral line group ( UASLG) . [Method]The five kindsof medicines were extracted with 5 different solvents of water,ethanol,petroleum ether,ethyl acetate and chloroform. Then,the absorbencies in UV and first-orderderivative spectra were measured. [Result] There were significant differences in the peak position and absorbance inultraviolet absorption spectra among RADIXNOTOGINSENG,RHIZOMA ALPINIAE OFFCINARUM,RHIZOMA BLETILLAE,RHIZOMA CURCUMAE LONGAE and RHIZOMA CURCUMAE. [Conclusion] The method was simple and accurate,and could be used to distinguish RADIX NOTOGINSENG from its counterfeits.
