British historian Peirce throws “the theory of the Yellow Scourge” is built on the basis of extreme European theory and racial discrimination. The image of Fu Manchu created by Saks Romer is the product of the British fear projection toward China in the early 20th century and also the most typical manifestation of the “Yellow Disaster Theory” in literature. In him, he expressed Britain’s anxiety about the awakening of China, its fear of the spread of scientific and technological knowledge to the colored people, and its unease about integrating Eastern and Western knowledge with Oriental wisdom. The Chinese are thus regarded as unacceptable others who are hated and condemned.
