The joint-venture gold-hull ship designed and built by RA Hanson at the end of 1988 has been operated on a low-grade (127 mg / m 3) Gray River sand gold mine located on the west coast of New Zealand’s South Island with a mining area of 420 hectares. Gold ships, equipped with suction excavators and bucket conveyor systems on the front of the hull, and a well-established gold recovery system, also have computer systems for monitoring and controlling the mining, gold recovery and tailings disposal. Covering a thickness of 18.3 meters, the orebody is 10 meters thick. Adopting the suction mining gold ship appears with a low-cost solution with good technical performance and low cost, so that the mines which have been discontinued are resumed mining.
