Ding Zhitang was a latecomer to scholars in Qing Dynasty, whose diary recorded a rather rich historical material of the opera. Its value is mainly reflected in the following three aspects: recording of opera performances in Chengdu, breaking through the diary of traditional dramas and recording more in the capital and Shanghai , Which provides an important historical reference for the study of the development of opera in the Sichuan area in the late Qing dynasty. Viewing the dramas recorded in Beijing and Shanghai, to some extent, can make up for the deficiencies of other diaries and historical documents; , Which helps to intuitively grasp the cultural life and the drama ecology of the literati in the late Qing Dynasty.
