The British EWS Railway (England, Wales and the Scottish Railways, made up of four British railroad freight companies and acquired by the Wisconsin Central Rail Transit Company in early 1996) recently retrofitted three units equipped with a Land Positioning System (GPS) locomotive. The system uses satellite tracking technology to determine the exact locomotive location. GPS satellite tracking technology is now widely covered by the police and the armed forces
