1945年2月5日上午,郭沫若从重庆市区来远郊探望正在养病的徐悲鸿,两人亲切地交谈起来,谈文艺创作,谈解放区的情况……当话题转到急需一个有中国共产党参加的民主联合政府,才能有利于抗战之时,郭沫若从衣袋里掏出《陪都文化界对时局进言》的文稿,放在徐悲鸿面前的桌子上。徐悲鸿一眼就认出,这是由郭沫若亲自起草、亲笔书写的一份宣言书。徐悲鸿读罢,当即拿起笔,在文稿上郑重地签上了自己的名字。
