叶维廉(1937-)是著名的美籍华裔诗人、翻译家和学者,他在比较诗学的研究上卓有建树,其著名的“文化模子”理论曾在比较文学界产生强烈的反响。叶维廉对道家美学亦颇有研究,其出版的《饮之太和》、《比较诗学》、《中国诗学》、《历史、传释与美学》、《寻求跨中西文化的共同文学规律》、《从现象到表现》和《与当代艺术家的对话——中国现代画的生成》等论文集和专著或直接或间接的对道家美学进行了现代阐释。叶维廉对道家美学的研究为使我们能够在现代思潮里回归传统找出我们意识形态的源头、承续传统使我们的历史意识得以持续与去除西方文化遮蔽而重拾自信,做出了成效卓著的努力。本文即试图通过论述叶维廉在中西视域下对道家美学的阐释这一侧面来揭示这种努力成果。
Ye Weilian (1937-), a famous American Chinese poet, translator and scholar, made great achievements in the study of comparative poetics. His famous theory of “cultural mold” has had a strong response in comparative literature. Ye Weilian also studied the aesthetics of Taoism quite well. His published articles titled “Taihe Drinking,” “Comparative Poetics,” “Chinese Poetics,” “History, Interpretation and Aesthetics,” “Seeking Common Laws of Across the Western and Chinese Cultures.” , “From Phenomenon to Performance” and “Dialogue with Contemporary Artists - Generation of Modern Chinese Painting” and other monographs or direct or indirect modern interpretation of Taoist aesthetics. Ye Weilian’s research on Taoist aesthetics has made remarkable achievements in order to enable us to return to the tradition in the trend of modern thought to find out the source of our ideology and continue the tradition of bringing about the continuity of our historical consciousness and removing the shadow of Western culture. Work hard. This article tries to reveal the result of this endeavor by discussing Ye Weilian’s interpretation of Taoist aesthetics from the perspective of Chinese and Western.
