The organic base salts can be titrated with sodium tetraphenylborate in the presence of a suitable indicator in a biphasic system (chloroform and acetate buffer). The authors studied the molar ratio of reactants and their quantitative relationship. The method is based on the formation of a chloroform-soluble organic base-indicator complex, whereas sodium tetraphenylborate generates a more stable complex with an organic base. After the equivalent point, sodium tetraphenylborate displaces the indicator from the base indicator complex to discolor the solution.
