Like George Forrest, the Englishman Franke Kindon Ward (1885-1958) is also a pure plant hunter. In Yunnan, his fame can not be compared with Forrester, but abroad, his reputation is much higher than Forrester. That’s because unlike Forrester, who spent 28 years in Yunnan, Yunnan is not the main site for his hunter-gatherer career. During his 22 acquisition and exploration trips spanning 45 years, he traveled through the remotest corners of Myanmar, Yunnan, Tibet and Assam to collect plants and bring hundreds of Rhododendron species to Britain.
