James Trier is a political theorist and writer of the Whig party in the seventeenth century. His masterpiece is “Library Patrol” published in 1681, “Patriarchy is not a Monarchy,” and in early 1690. Judging from two books, Trier’s thinking of Whigs was still very vague before the glorious revolution. He seldom defended the right to resist and did not find a historical basis for his contractual and natural law theories. His glorious revolution marked a substantial development in his thinking. He fused his studies of British history and constitutional traditions into his political theory, seeking historical support for his own political ideas from the familiar histories and conventions of the British, and Resolutely safeguard the people’s right of resistance, and have reached the goal of defending the cause of the glorious revolution and the Whigs.
