IBM 公司计划在9月正式发布其完全可编程的网络处理器,命名为 Rainier。而 Intel公司也同时在上个月收购了 Microsystem 公司,该公司掌握可编程处理器的核心技术——P3技术。最初可编程网络芯片的主要目的是实现小型商务的灵活性,而现在已被强化来代替定制化的 ASIC 芯片。新的处理器不仅可以编程而且可以通过软件进行升级,它弥补了早期 ASIC 灵活性不足的缺陷。业界专家指出,这是一种保护投资的技术,当有新的业务或需求出现时,用户只需要更换软件,而不需要淘汰硬件。
IBM plans to officially release its fully programmable network processor in September, named Rainier. And Intel Corp. also acquired Microsystem last month, the company holds the core technology programmable processor - P3 technology. The primary purpose of the initial programmable network chip was to enable the flexibility of small business, which has now been enhanced to replace custom ASIC chips. The new processor is not only programmable but also software upgradable, making up for the lack of flexibility in earlier ASICs. Industry experts point out that this is a technology that protects investments, and when new business or demand arises, users only need to change software without having to eliminate the hardware.
