To compare the imaging features of mammographic and benign lesions in digital mammograms, digital mammograms of 466 patients were randomly selected from a digital mammography database at the University of South Florida. Radiologists with more than 5 years of experience in breast imaging compared the imaging features of malignant and benign breast lesions. Two-sample t-test showed that the number of calcifications in the 1 cm × 1 cm area of malignant breast lesions was significantly higher than that of benign breast lesions (P <0.001). At the same time, the proportion of lobulated tumors with irregular or burr-like margins in malignant breast lesions was significantly higher than that of benign breast lesions (P <0.000 1). However, irregular or marginal lobed mass contrast results are diametrically opposite. In addition, the proportion of marginal oval or round tumors in benign breast lesions was significantly higher than in malignant breast lesions (P = 0.001). However, current data suggest that only malignant breast lesions exhibit marginal oval or rounded masses. The structural distortion of malignant breast lesions (5.2%) was slightly higher than that of benign breast lesions (1.7%) (P = 0.042). Other imaging features did not differ significantly. This study shows that the main imaging features of malignant breast lesions are burr-like edges or distorted lumps, calcification (more than 21 calcifications in a 1 cm × 1 cm area), and the major imaging features of benign breast lesions For the edge of the lumps.
