圣约翰大学地处曹家渡沿苏州河以南的转角上。最初的校园面积仅80亩,原是一座私人别墅,有精致的楼台亭阁和大片草地树木。1911年起又在校址南面购入大片土地,从此苏州河三角洲的整块土地都并入圣约翰大学校园,成为完整的一大块校址,占地232亩。在1929年圣约翰50周年之时,有上海绅民赠对联一幅:环境平分三面水,树人已半百年
St. John's University is located in Caojiadu along the Suzhou River south of the corner. The initial campus area of only 80 acres, was originally a private villa, with exquisite pavilions and large grassland trees. Since 1911, a large area of land has been purchased in the south of the school site. Since then, the entire land in the Suzhou River Delta has been integrated into the campus of Saint John's University and has become a complete large-scale campus with an area of 232 mu. At the time of the 50th anniversary of St. John's in 1929, there was a Shanghai gentleman's couplet presented with one copy: the environment was divided into three surfaces and the tree was half a century old
