清末民初美术展览作为一种新兴文化活动传入中国,在南京、上海、北京等地广泛开展。美术展览不仅可以直接销售书画家的作品,还可以以比较直观的形式增加观看者对书画家的印象,以此实现宣传的目的,这正是它作为一种新型的销售形式迅速为书画家接受的重要原因。尽管当时的美展本身存在一些弊端,但客观地看它还是极大地推动了书画市场的发展。
