Studies have shown that bone marrow and peripheral blood derived endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) are involved in tumor angiogenesis and are closely related to tumor growth, metastasis and prognosis. Recent studies have found that ovarian cancer, non-small cell lung cancer and other malignant tumors in peripheral blood EPCs increased. As a new biomarker, peripheral blood EPCs have great potential in the diagnosis of tumors, the design of therapeutic regimens and the evaluation of the prognosis of tumors. The article reviews the important role of EPCs in neovascularization and whether EPCs can be used as tumor markers in predicting the prognosis of oncology.
