The new term “Seismological Sociology” was first proposed at the Fifth Japan-US Symposium on Earthquake Prediction Science held in January 1977 in Tokyo, Japan. It is an interdisciplinary discipline that studies the impact of earthquakes and earthquake prediction on society in both the natural sciences and social sciences.
