The first part of this article introduces the history and current situation of Japan’s industrial textiles market. The second part analyzes the trends of textile materials and textile technologies for end use. Then it introduces the four most advanced technologies developed in Japan. Finally, it looks forward to the development trend and the environment. The issue was explored. In the 1960s, the market for industrial textiles developed rapidly, especially in the application of synthetic fiber nonwovens. In the 1970s, some specialty fibers, such as flame-retardant fibers, carbon fibers, activated carbon fiber membranes, and hollow fibers, were commercialized. Some fiber manufacturers have begun to make nonwovens by spunbonding. Since then, Japan has begun to pay attention to the special fiber and industrial fiber industries. In the 1980s, non-woven diapers and superabsorbent materials dominated the market for most of the nonwovens. Nowadays, the consumption of fiber for industrial textiles (excluding indoor and home use) is 1.5 times that of textiles for clothing used in textile mills.
