A group of athletes, represented by former East German famous swimmer Rica, started to prosecute some of the former East German coaches and sports officials this year and charged them with compelling athletes to take harmful medications in order to improve their performance. The first four indicted defendants have been tried since March 18. With this prosecution as the starting point, it is estimated that at least 50 people will be prosecuted.
