Metastable copper (α-PcCu) undergoes a transition to copper (β-PcCu) at steady state in an organic solvent treatment, which has been experimentally confirmed. However, there are different speculations in the literature when explaining the mechanism of change. One is that α-PcCu dissolves in organic solvents (albeit in very small amounts) and gradually grows to a steady-state β-crystal after β nuclei are formed beyond saturation.
