Heavy metals are one of many environmental stresses that urgamsms can face.Industrial societys reliance on metals has increased the exposure of organisms to metals,and one response has been adaptations that allow greater heavy metal tolerance.Much of the research regarding heavy metals has targeted their effects on vertebrates.including humans.This stems from our natural desire to understand the effects of heavy metals on the health of both our economically valuable vertebrate animals and ourselves.
