威海市位于胶东半岛东端,三面环海,一面接陆,公路是我市联结内地的主要纽带。自1987年地级市成立以来,从增强城市服务功能、完善城市投资环境、建设新型开放城市的战略需要出发,公路建设步伐加快,全市公路整体面貌发生了根本性变化。新建改建公路900多公里,建成了青威二级汽车专用路、烟威一级汽车专用路和初张线,改造了威荣线、309国道、石烟线、成大线和机场路等重要干线,建设了双岛海湾大桥、江家寨立交桥等一批大型桥梁。同时,县乡公路得到迅速发展,96％的镇通了油路,86.5％的自然村通了公路。全市公路养护里程达到1861.5公里,公路密度为每百平方公里
