In this research, the dynamic behavior of a nonlinear damped pendulum controlled by an active linear feedback control strategy is studied in detail. The control strategy effectiveness is testified by distinguishing the periodic,non-periodic motions of the system in a large range of parameter changing.A regular-irregular region diagram is developed by employing the Periodicity-Ratio(P-R)approach to identify the parameters causing the nonlinear vibrations. The research results show that, within the parameter range tested, the control strategy is effective; however, chaotic motion does exist when the damping is low.The nonlinear responses in between periodic and chaotic are also discovered with the P-R approach.Further control is necessary for controlling and stabilizing the nonlinear vibrations identified.
