<正>As China’s economic reforms have transformed the nation over the past thirty years,its political institutions have attained greater political stability since the first decade of reform in the 1980s—despite widely publicized protests over economic issues.This paper surveys the changes in China that have served to stabilize its basic political institutions,distinguishing its path of economic and political change sharply from those of the Soviet Union and other former state socialist regimes.
