  Preparative chromatography is usually operated under nonlinear adsorption conditions in order to achieve a high production rate.The accurate determination of the competitive adsorption isotherm is therefore of great importance for model-based process optimization and scale-up, especially for simulated moving bed chromatography (SMB), in which optimal operation conditions cannot be determined conveniently only through experimental work due to its process complexity.
