Any change in the frequency or intensity of climate extremes would cause more serious and profound impacts on human society, ecosystems, agriculture as well as on infrastructure through many obvious ways than changes in the mean.Extreme precipitation events are the main causes for the flood/drought hazards in the Yangtze River Basin (YRB).Based on daily precipitation dataset observed by the China Meteorological Administration at 143 meteorological stations in the YRB,a suite of precipitation indices recommended by ETCCDI,with a primary focus on extreme events, were computed and analyzed for the periods 1960-1985,1986-2012 and 1960-2012 in this study using the Mann-Kendall test and Sens slope estimator.
