Climate change is becoming an increasingly severe problem. It is not only a global issue but also a regional problem. One of the most serious impacts of climate change is the effect on ecosystems which differs greatly among ecosystems, nations and regions.China has many unique ecosystems situated within a special society; hence the impacts on ecosystems by climate change are also unique. This paper attemptsto map the ecosystem impacts of climate change in China in terms of its potential implications for society. It then considers available strategies, policies, information, and management tools to improve the adaptation capacity of the ecosystem and to decrease uncertainties under the scenario of climate change. The framework of this paper (1) determines the current state of ecosystems in Chinese society,(2) specifies climate change scenarios in China,(3) assesses the ecosystem impacts under the different scenarios, and (4) identifies the best adaptation strategies for alleviating impacts of climate change.
