This paper focuses mainly on the introduction of the concept of the environment con sideration application in highway project planning and development. The purposes of this paper are to address the importance of environmental considerations in transportation systems development and to provide an overview of environmental issues that should be addressed during the standard project planning and development process. An actual example of how the environmental considerations are implemented in the routine project development process is also demonstrated in the paper.
