  Continuous multi-step flow synthesis of isopropyl phenol is demonstrated.Isopropyl phenol is an intermediate for the manufacture of agrochemicals,UV stabilizers,polymerization inhibitors and anti-oxidants etc.Nitration of cumene with fuming nitric acid gives 2-nitrocumene(2-NC)and 4-nitrocumene(4-NC),which upon separation of organic layer followed by reduction using H-cube with Pd/charcoal gives cumidine.In acidic environment cumidine gives diazonium salt on reaction with NaNO2,which can be hydrolyzed using sulphuric acid at higher temperature to obtain the respective phenol.There are 2 derivatives of isopropyl phenol,2 and 4-isopropyl phenol,which comes in aqueous phase on basifying organic layer with 10%sodium hydroxides solution.On neutralizing this aqueous layer with hydrochloric acid it comes as oily layer.These isomers can be easily separated by crystallisation.The individual steps were optimized and then integrated to obtain an end to end synthesis protocol.
