The collection of seventeen chemical elements in the periodic table,namely scandium,yttrium and the fifteen lanthanides are called rare earths (REs).All above said REs having almost similar atomic properties like physical and chemical properties are very similar due to this reason very difficult to separate firom other elements as well as each other.Up to now available technologies for their separations are solvent extraction,ion-exchange,chromatographic methods etc.The worlds REO (rare earths oxides) reserves showing that,China occupies major place with ~ 87.7% followed by other countries like USA (5.8%),India (3.2%),Canada (0.37%),Australia (0.224%),Former USSR (0.222%),Malaysia (0.11%),Brazil (0.07%),Thailand (0.004%) and others (2.3%).The present experimental study on REs extraction and separation we are proposing the extraction chromatographic technique (ECT),it have following advantages:high efficiency of separation high purity products,emulsion in column does not occur,able to reproduction of extraction resin and selective trial of eluent as well as disadvantages are follows:expensive of extraction resin,discontinuous process and long separation time required.
