Two conjugated polymers bearing 3,4-dithiophenyl-l,2-squaraine (TST) as electron aeeeptor segment,thiophene (T) and benzo[1,2-b;4,5-b]dithiophene (BDT) as donor moieties,namely,PTTST[1] and PBDTTST (shown m Fig.l),are synthesized by Stille coupling reaction.They showed an intense light absorption ranging from 300 to 800 nm in thin film,and the band gaps are calculated to be ~1.60 eV,therefore,they could harvest light across the solar spectrum effectively.Both of them possess a very deep HOMO levels (~-5.45 eV),hence higher Voc could be expected when using them as photovoltaic electron donors instead of P3HT (~-5.00 eV),therefore,they could act as p-type photovoltaic materials.Interestingly obvious thermochromism could be observed in PBDTTST chlorobenzene solution,however,similar thermochromism could not be found in PTTST solution (shown in Fig.1).
