Objective To compare the long-term safety of sirolimus-elutingstent(SES)versus bare-metal stent (BMS)in treatment of coronary heart disease. Methods 1489 patients with coronary heart diseasewere treated, 505patients in BMS group (from Jan.2000 to Aug.2004) and984 patients in SES group (from Jan.2004 to Jan.2005).Two groups were retrospectively and historically investgated.During a period of up to 2 years, the incidence of mortality, stent thrombosis and non-fatal myocardial infarction was compared between these two groups. Results There were no differences in smoking, blood pressure, total cholestenol, diabetes, and the number of coronary vessel diseases between the two groups. The patients of SES group were elder, and the rate of bification lesion was higher. In the SES group the mean stent diameter was less and the mean stent length was longer than that of BMS group.During 2 years of follow-up, The incidence of survival, stent thrombosis, non-fatal myocardial infarction and death/non-fatal myocardial infarction was all no significant difference between two groups(99.3 %、 1.3 %、 1.1%、 1.8%vs.98.3%、 1.7%、 1.7%、 3.5%, respectively). Conclusion Implanting SES in the treatment of coronary heart disease was as safe as that of BMS.The long-term safety of SES needs to be ascertained in large, randomized trials.
