Obstructive Sleep Apnoea and Cardiovascular Disease Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) is a highly prevalent condition estimated to affect 4% of adult males and 2% of adult females within western communities.Sleep apnoea is associated with a well established symptom burden which responds well to treatment with Continuous Positive Airway Pressure.In addition there is a strong association with OSA and a range of cardiovascular outcomes, however the extent of the causal attribution remains unclear.As a result of this, screening for OSA is often overlooked in cardiovascular risk management plans.This overview will critically appraise the literature relating OSA to conditions such as cardiomyopathy, ischaemic heart disease and hypertension and overview studies currently underway to address this important relationship.
