Semitransparent WOLED with bi-directional and symmetrical illumination

  A semitransparent white organic light-emitting diode (WOLED) is produced based on a blue phosphorescence from iridium(Ⅲ)[bis(4,6-difuorophenyl)-pyridinato-N,C2] picolinate and an orange phosphorescence from bis(2-(9,9-diethyl-9H-fluoren-2-yl)-1-phenyl-1H-benzoimidazol -N,C3) iridium(acetylacetonate).The semitransparent WOLED has a visible-light transparency of >50%, an almost identical power efficiency of 11 lm/W (measured at 100 cd/m2) and the similar CIE coordinatesof (0.36, 0.43) and (0.38, 0.46) from both sides.This was realized by optimizing the WOLED structure through theoretical simulation and experimental optimization.The accomplishment of semitransparent WOLEDs with bi-directional and symmetrical illumination characteristics, including the power efficiency, the color chromatics and the emission spectra, offers new features and design freedoms for application in diffused planar lighting.
