Fullerene, represented by a soccer-ball shaped molecule,C60,is a typical nano-sized carbon material, and its chemical reactions giving new derivatives with novel structures are of great interest. There isan intrinsic problem, however, that the solubility of C60 as well as other higher fullerenes in commonorganic solvents is so low. This problem led us to investigate a possibility of the solid-state reaction, particularly the one using "mechanochemistry".Previously to our work, there had been no singleattempt to conduct the mechanochemical reaction of fullerenes.
