Semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase (SSAO) catalyzes the deamination of methylamine and aminoacetone, producing toxic aldehydes, hydrogen peroxide and ammonia.SSAO activity appears to be associated with a number of diseases such as diabetes, inflammatory liver disease. There are several inhibitors of SSAO that have been reported previously, all of which are relatively toxic, which limit the study of SSAO and related diseases. In our previous study, the inhibitory effects of fifteen anti-obesity drugs were investigated in vitro to search for selective SSAO inhibitors, the inhibition of SSAO activity by caffeine was confirmed in both an in vitro and an in vivo study.
